The diversity of climatic zones and the abundance of vegetation explain the presence of many bioclimatic zones necessary for the preservation of biodiversity through a vast network of Protected Areas.

\r\n\r\n

Protected areas ofIa CAR are mainly located in the Sudanian and Sahelo-Sudanian zone. They are all almost located on the edge of the borders. They have statutes which differ from each other according to their vocations.

\r\n\r\n

Indeed, originally, the territory of the Central African Republic was divided according to demography, of which two large areas can be distinguished:

\r\n\r\n

An area of low human density considered as an area of hunting interest in the North and;
A zone with a high human density called an ordinary zone reserved for Agro-sylvo-pastoral activities from which national parks and biosphere reserves will be created a little later.

\r\n\r\n

It was in 1930 that the governor of the former French Equatorial Africa decided to create national parks in each representative plant zone, it was then that the National Parks of Bamingui Bangoran (PNB) and Manovo Gounda Saint Floris (PNMGSF) were created to represent the flora and fauna richness of the Sudano-Guinean and Sahelian type.

\r\n\r\n

Awareness of the sustainable management of Protected Areas began in 1916 with the promulgation of the 1st Law relating to the protection of fauna, prohibiting hunting in the reserves.

\r\n\r\n

In 1925, the first two (2) hunting reserves were created in the east of the country.

\r\n\r\n

In 1929, a Decree provided for the establishment of national parks and reserves on the condition of not harming the economic activity of the regions where they would be created. Thus, the first national park was created in 1933 under the title “partial hunting reserves”. In that year, the London Convention established the status of Saint Floris National Park around Lake GATA, initially known as \"Lake Matoumara\", renowned for its high density of hippos.

\r\n\r\n

In 1935, a new category of partial reserves was established where hunting was authorized for a period of six months, hunting which, in 1939 will be totally prohibited in these protected areas which will later become wildlife reserves.

\r\n\r\n

In 1944 a law intervened to refine all the categories of protected areas in accordance with the London Convention and started by a Decree of 1954.

\r\n\r\n

Since that date, several other protected areas have emerged.
