Project “Basse Lobaye Biosphere Reserve (14,700 ha)” funded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as part of the “Man and Biosphere” program (MAB for the English acronym). Started in 1979, this project made it possible to support activities on the outskirts of the Reserve (reforestation, income-generating activities) to reduce the pressure on the forests of the Reserve, then was abandoned a few years later for lack of funding. UNESCO's succession was ensured by COMIFAC, which financed a rehabilitation project for the said reserve. This project has been implemented by the NGO Central African Organization for the Defense of Nature (OCDN) since 2009 and should end in 2011.
